There was an article in a recent Rotary International magazine suggesting that current Extension Clubs consider changing its name to Companion Club.
There are a variety of reasons, but a primary reason is that the name “Companion” denotes “working together” and ties in with “Unity” or “Unite for Good.”
The word “companion” also means “a pair intended to complement each other” or “one who serves as a friend or partner.”
District 6000 Membership Co-Chairs Jennifer Chittenden and Steve Wieneke with the support of myself as Governor are offering a promotion to all district clubs to proceed with developing or expanding a Companion Club (previously Extension Club).
The promotion is effective January 1, 2026 through April 30, 2026 to all district Rotary Clubs.
The promotion will reward any club starting a “Companion Club” during this time period with 2 FREE registrations to the 2026 Annual Conference plus $20 per signed new member to the Companion Club.
Pella is in the process of beginning a new Companion Club and Ottumwa likewise, so they will qualify.
Please coordinate any questions or communications with Jennifer or Steve.
